  • Preparation H Cooling Gel, Preparation H Ointment, Preparation H Suppositories, Preparation H Maximum Strength Cream (Wyeth)

    Active Ingredients:    Preparation H is available in ointment, cream, gel, and suppository product forms. The Ointment contains Petrolatum 71.9%, Mineral Oil 14%, Shark Liver Oil 3% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%.

    The Maximum Strength Cream contains White Petrolatum 15%, Glycerin 14.4%, Pramoxine HCl 1% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%.

    The Suppositories contain Cocoa Butter 85.5%, Shark Liver Oil 3%, and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%.

    The Cooling Gel contains Phenylephrine HCl 0.25% and Witch Hazel 50%.

    Uses:    Preparation H Ointment and Suppositories

    • help relieve the local itching and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids
    • temporarily shrink hemorrhoidal tissue and relieve burning
    • temporarily provide a coating for relief of anorectal discomforts
    • temporarily protect the inflamed, irritated anorectal surface to help make bowel movements less painful

    Maximum Strength Cream

    • for temporary relief of pain, soreness and burning
    • helps relieve the local itching and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids
    • temporarily shrinks hemorrhoidal tissue
    • temporarily provides a coating for relief of anorectal discomforts
    • temporarily protects the inflamed, irritated anorectal surface to help make bowel movements less painful

    Cooling Gel

    • helps relieve the local itching and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids
    • temporarily relieves irritation and burning
    • temporarily shrinks hemorrhoidal tissue
    • aids in protecting irritated anorectal areas

    Warnings:

    For all product forms :

    Ask a doctor before use if you have

    • heart disease
    • high blood pressure
    • thyroid disease
    • diabetes
    • difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland

    Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are presently taking a prescription drug for high blood pressure or depression.

    When using this product do not exceed the recommended daily dosage unless directed by a doctor.

    Stop use and ask a doctor if

    • bleeding occurs
    • condition worsens or does not improve within 7 days

    If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use.

    Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

    Ointment :   For external and/or intrarectal use only. Stop use and ask a doctor if introduction of applicator into the rectum causes additional pain.

    Maximum Strength Cream :   For external use only. Stop use and ask a doctor if an allergic reaction develops; or if the symptom being treated does not subside or if redness, irritation, swelling, pain, or other symptoms develop or increase.

    Cooling Gel :   For external use only. When using this product do not put into the rectum by using fingers or any mechanical device or applicator.

    Suppositories :   For rectal use only.

    Directions:

    Ointment --

    • adults: when practical, cleanse the affected area by patting or blotting with an appropriate cleansing wipe. Gently dry by patting or blotting with a tissue or a soft cloth before applying ointment.
    • when first opening the tube, puncture foil seal with top end of cap
    • apply to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement
    • intrarectal use:
      • remove cover from applicator, attach applicator to tube, lubricate applicator well and gently insert applicator into the rectum
      • thoroughly cleanse applicator after each use and replace cover
    • also apply ointment to external area
    • regular use provides continual therapy for relief of symptoms
    • children under 12 years of age: ask a doctor

    Tamper-Evident: Do Not Use if tube seal under cap embossed with "H" is broken or missing.

    Maximum Strength Cream --

    • adults: when practical, cleanse the affected area by patting or blotting with an appropriate cleansing wipe. Gently dry by patting or blotting with a tissue or a soft cloth before applying cream.
    • when first opening the tube, puncture foil seal with top end of cap
    • apply externally or in the lower portion of the anal canal only
    • apply externally to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement
    • for application in the lower anal canal: remove cover from dispensing cap. Attach dispensing cap to tube. Lubricate dispensing cap well, then gently insert dispensing cap partway into the anus.
    • thoroughly cleanse dispensing cap after each use and replace cover
    • children under 12 years of age: ask a doctor

    Tamper-Evident: Do Not Use if tube seal under cap embossed with "H" is broken or missing.

    Suppositories --

    • adults: when practical, cleanse the affected area by patting or blotting with an appropriate cleansing wipe. Gently dry by patting or blotting with a tissue or a soft cloth before insertion of this product.
    • detach one suppository from the strip; remove the foil wrapper before inserting into the rectum as follows:
      • hold suppository with rounded end up
      • carefully separate foil tabs by inserting tip of fingernail at end marked "peel down"
      • slowly and evenly peel apart (do not tear) foil by pulling tabs down both sides, to expose the suppository
      • remove exposed suppository from wrapper
      • insert one suppository into the rectum up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement
    • children under 12 years of age: ask a doctor

    Tamper-Evident: Individually quality sealed for your protection. Do Not Use if foil imprinted "PREPARATION H" is torn or damaged.

    Cooling Gel --

    • adults: when practical, cleanse the affected area by patting or blotting with an appropriate cleansing wipe. Gently dry by patting or blotting with a tissue or a soft cloth before applying gel.
    • when first opening the tube, puncture foil seal with top end of cap
    • apply externally to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement
    • children under 12 years of age: ask a doctor

    Suppositories --methylparaben, propylparaben, starch

    Cooling Gel --aloe barbadensis gel, benzophenone-4, edetate disodium, hydroxyethylcellulose, methylparaben, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, propylparaben, sodium citrate, vitamin E, water

    Storage:  Store at 20-25°C (68-77°F).
