  • Tums E-X Antacid/Calcium Tablets, Tums ULTRA Antacid/Calcium Tablets, Tums Regular Antacid/Calcium Tablets, Tums E-X Sugar Free Antacid/Calcium Tablets (Glaxosmithkline)

Professional Labeling:    Indicated for the symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with the diagnosis of peptic ulcer, gastritis, peptic esophagitis, gastric hyperacidity, and hiatal hernia.

Indications:    For fast relief of acid indigestion, heartburn, sour stomach, and upset stomach associated with these symptoms.

    Active Ingredient:

    Tums, Calcium Carbonate 500 mg

Tums E-X, Calcium Carbonate 750 mg

Tums ULTRA, Calcium Carbonate 1000 mg

Actions:    Tums provides rapid neutralization of stomach acid. Each Tums tablet has an acid-neutralizing capacity (ANC) of 10 mEq. Each Tums E-X tablet has an ANC of 15 mEq and each Tums ULTRA tablet, an ANC of 20 mEq. This high neutralization capacity makes Tums tablets an ideal antacid for management of conditions associated with hyperacidity. It effectively neutralizes free acid yet does not cause systemic alkalosis in the presence of normal renal function. A double-blind placebo-controlled clinical study demonstrated that calcium carbonate taken at a dosage of 16 Tums tablets daily for a two-week period was non-constipating/non-laxative.
