  • Colace Syrup (Purdue Products)

    Actions:    Colace® (docusate sodium) is a stool softener. It helps moisten and soften hard, dry stools and facilitates natural defecation.

    Uses:    Relieves occasional constipation (irregularity). Generally produces a bowel movement in 12 to 72 hours.

    Directions:

    Colace Capsules, 50 mg:

    • doses may be taken as a single daily dose or in divided doses
    • adults and children 12 years of age and over: take 1-6 capsules daily
    • children 2 to under 12 years of age: take 1-3 capsules daily
    • children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor

    Colace Capsules, 100 mg:

    • doses may be taken as a single daily dose or in divided doses
    • adults and children 12 years of age and over: take 1-3 capsules daily
    • children 2 to under 12 years of age: take 1 capsule daily
    • children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor

    Colace Liquid 1% Solution:

    • doses must be given in a 6-8 oz glass of milk or fruit juice, or in infant's formula to prevent throat irritation
    • adults and children 12 years of age and over: take 5-15 ml once or twice a day
    • children 2 to under 12 years of age: take 5-15 ml once a day
    • children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor

    Colace Syrup:

    • give in a 6 oz to 8 oz glass of milk or fruit juice to prevent throat irritation
    • adults and children 12 years of age and over: 1-6 tablespoons daily or as directed by a doctor
    • children 2 to under 12 years of age: 1-2 ½ tablespoons daily or as directed by a doctor
    • children under 2 years of age: ask a doctor

    Warnings:    Do not use if you are presently taking mineral oil, unless told to do so by a doctor. Do not use Colace Syrup if you are on a sodium-restricted diet unless told to do so by a doctor. Ask a doctor before use if you need to take laxative products for longer than 1 week. Ask a doctor before use if you have stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, noticed a sudden change in bowel habits that lasts over 2 weeks. Stop use and ask a doctor if you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative. These could be signs of a serious condition. If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use. Keep out of reach of children.

    Other Information:    Colace® Capsules: Sodium content: 3 mg/50 mg capsule; 5 mg/100 mg capsule. VERY LOW SODIUM. Store at 25°C (77°F). Excursions permitted between 15-30°C (59-86°F). Keep bottle tightly closed.

    Colace® Liquid 1% Solution:    Each milliliter contains 10 mg of docusate sodium. Sodium content 1 mg/mL. VERY LOW SODIUM. Supplied in 30 mL bottle with calibrated medicine dropper.

    Colace® Syrup:    Each tablespoon (15 mL) contains 60 mg of docusate sodium. Sodium content: 36 mg/15 mL. Store at 20°-25°C (68°-77°F). Contains no sugar or alcohol.

    How Supplied:    Colace Capsules 50 mg: In boxes of 10 capsules. Bottles of 30 and 60 capsules. Colace Capsules 100 mg: In boxes of 10 capsules. Bottles of 30, 60 and 250 capsules.

    Colace Liquid 1% Solution: 1 fl. oz. (30 mL) bottles.

    Colace Syrup: 16 oz. (473 mL) bottles.
